Do you have any tips or tricks you can share with other Job-a-matic job board users?

Tip 1.  Use the footer of your Job-a-matic job board to include links to your other sites.  Google indexes them.

Tip 2.  Set up websites that have job related articles or posts.  An easy way to do this is with Word Press.  Place both the Job-a-matic customizable and the color widgets before your article on the page and in the side bar.  Set the colors of the widgets to blend with the website page.  Not only will you get people clicking on the jobs on the widget, but you can include the url link to your actual job board in your article.  Also placing the Job-a-matic banner at the top of every page gets great results too.

Here are some examples

Tip 1. Run your job board just like a business. Research your competitors, professionally brand your website, offer something your competitors do not and finally marketing, marketing, marketing.

Tip 2. Had I known what I do now back when I started my job board, I would have:

          A. Purchased an aged domain with backlinks/or page rank;

          B. Would have started link building from day one and never stopped;

          C. Would have never gone with a $5 mo hosting provider.

Tip 3. Get the XML API setup for your site. Since this implementation, my site is more customizable than I know what to do with. You can visit my site at www.s2opps.com     Because I am also in the business of workforce development --If you are in need of assistance with your XML API setup please visit my site and submit an email through the Contact Us page-- I help people with their businesses all the time.

I notice that both of you charge very little for your job postings between $5 and $30.

Did you do testing to come up with that price?  Considering it cost around $300+

to advertise on a large site like simply hired, monster, career builder etc... I would not think you would go so low.

Although for the part time job site I could see keeping that one low, but I was amazed it was higher to post on that site than it was

the executive job posting site.

How much do you actually end up making on a job post? I see we make 50% of net, but what does that typically work out to be.

Mainly looking for margins to know if you are able to do a CPA offer to drive traffic?

Also, at these prices do you make more through ad revenue than from postings?

Just wondering as I would think most recruiters would not take the site serious at these prices?

my site is http://www.hotpmjobs.com

I just made it tonight so I need to work on it, but I would be very interesting in any advice anyone would like to share.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

I have been and will be raising the price to post a job.  I hadn't really been focusing on getting postings, because employers are not typically visiting the sites.  Looking at one of my biggest Job-a-matic competitors, he charges about $99 for 60 days on most boards.  I don't use any paid advertising to drive traffic, because at 10 cents a click earnings, I can't pay $1.25 a click adwords.  Google Adsense has been a nice extra income on all my websites and job boards.

Hi Jeff,

Nice implementation. I am new at this job-board thing.  Your site says powered by SH but each listing in the feed goes to the actual employer site. Is that how it works?

@Penny - I think $30 is too low unless it is for a single posting and they can view resumes and video resumes as well from seekers.

I've had my domain for almost 2 yrs and just build backlinks until I decide on a board. Unfortunately, I think I am leaning to SJBs and will SH in widget on side columns.

Hello Hal,

I am not using the api so any I am only displaying the feed.  I do not currently have any of my jobs showing.

Any of the jobs from the feed will most likely go to the employers website.

I am looking at the api as I do not seem to get enough quality jobs that stay long enough to make the site really stand out so I am thinking of  mixing from multiple feeds using the api so that it might work better.  Although, I have not found another feed that allows the use of an api.  I also have not focused on this site at all as it would require more time than I had.  I do have the basics worked out for the SH api, but need to  work on the graphics /css template and a way to sell jobs as the api does not really allow for that from what I can tell.

I love to know more about SJBs can you contact me

I know I need to really work on backlinking and getting my sight out there as I am only averaging about $3 a month so far.

Although, not bad for a site I really have not done much to except put out there and having a few articles written.

Thanks,

Jeff
